STI/STD Testing and Treatment
According to the CDC, all sexually active women should receive STI/STD testing. Testing and treatment are especially critical during pregnancy or when you are considering an abortion.
Having an existing STI/STD during an abortion can raise the risk of developing pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), which is an infection of the female reproductive organs. PID can lead to chronic pelvic pain and infertility, so it’s critical to avoid it.
Also, if you are planning to carry to term, it’s important to note that STIs/STDs can cause premature birth and be passed to your child during pregnancy or childbirth. STI/STD testing and treatment can improve your pregnancy outcomes.
